Ex- Childbloom Student Wins Unique Award

We sometimes hear about former Childbloom guitar students when they go on to different paths in their life. We are proud of all the kids' acheivements and are glad that their music education experience did not deter them from a successful unfolding of their lives. One of our old students earned a very rare award last year. As quarterback of the New Orleans Saints, Drew Brees, now a bit older than when a student, earned the MVP of the NFL Superbowl. Ironically the last tune Drew learned in Childbloom was "When the Saints Go Marchin' In." Obviously that was enough. Although it is likely he doesn't remember how to play it now, his old teacher doesn't mind and was particularly pleased at the great picture of Drew with his son on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

"Young Artist Program" Collaboration Begins in 2011

Occasionally we have students who graduate from the elementary years into middle and high school who are passionate about the guitar and have aspirations to pursue performance at a college level. In 2011 Childbloom will teamed up with the non-profit, "Young Performing Artist Program" to offer these students increased training by master teachers, performance experience and sponsorship for festivals, competitions and master classes by world renown artists. In turn these student provide community concerts and mentorship of younger players. If you are interested in contributing to the Young Performing Artist Fund there are a number of levels: from a $50 membership to a $3500 patron who may direct performances of the young artists. This program is funded entirely by voluntary contributions. No city, state or federal funds are solicited. 100% of your contribution goes to the cultivation of targeted outstanding young talents and, we trust, the elevation of our culture.
Young Performing Artist Program is a sponsored project of Austin Creative Alliance.

Diane Wheeler (A Childbloom Parent)

My Childbloom Experience.

Early last fall my 6 year old son and I were on a camping trip with some friends. There were a bunch of kids playing tag and one of the boys tripped over a huge tree root and went down, hard, on one knee. He was upset and crying, and his dad picked him up to sooth him. But, after a moment or two, this boy asked for - - - his guitar. He started to play softly, to himself and kept playing for a while until he had really calmed down. That was something I hadn't seen before, and perhaps equally unusual was that he was playing a beautiful classical piece I'd later learn was called "The Ladder", and he was playing it well. I knew this boy could have been some kind of virtuoso or young musical genius and that not every child could pull off Bach or Mozart at 6, but there was something else. There was a visible kind of relationship he had with the instrument, and the music, that made me really curious. I wanted to know where he studied and if I could get some of that for my boy!.
